JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Quality Control (QC) Manager is responsible for driving all quality aspects for Ajax on Ajax projects. The QC Manager manages a team of QC Field Technicians to ensure proper documentation, reporting, and good paving practices. The QC Manager also manages entries into the FDOT’s Materials Acceptance Certification (MAC) System. The QC Manager works closely with Ajax’s construction teams in Venice and Fort Myers, regarding Quality Control needs and scheduling. The QC Manager attends internal scheduling meetings, attends pre-construction and project progress meetings as necessary, and performs other tasks as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The QC Manager reports directly to the Director of Quality Control.
REQUIREMENTS:
A) EDUCATION:
Graduate from an accredited engineering program, and/or have the appropriate FDOT certifications.
B) SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
1. Have the skill to direct, manage, and train personnel, and be responsible for all aspects of Quality Control at eight regional asphalt production facilities and asphalt paving crews.
2. Computer use: Microsoft Outlook, Viewpoint, Agg. QC Software, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
3. Familiar with Asphalt and Aggregate/Soil Laboratory Testing.
4. Plans / Specification reading.
5. Performance Measurement Analysis.
6. Asphalt manufacturing.
7. Negotiating skills.
8. Estimating functions.
9. Facilitating skills.
10. Hiring practices.
11. Conflict practices.
B) TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The essential functions of this position include sitting, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, twisting, trunk movements, lifting a minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, low-level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing, and talking.
C) TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Asphalt field operation, asphalt plants, lab, and office environment. Ability to work days, nights, and weekends as required.
D) RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop and implement quality control programs to meet the project specifications in accordance with the Florida Department of Transportation or other project-specific specifications.
2. As required by project specifications, supervise quality assurance and quality control testing.
3. Supervise field quality control technicians.
4. Work with the adjoining departments on assignments as directed.
5. Ensure compliance with safety standards.
6. Lab record keeping.
7. Maintain the company’s quality standards.
8. Assist in the preparation of costing information for budgetary purposes.
9. Economical purchase of parts and equipment.
10. Supervision of sublet repairs (obtain competitive bids, Ensure the work is completed correctly, in a
timely manner, and within budget).
11. Operate within budget.
12. Recommend required equipment and parts purchases.
13. Keep the Director of Quality Control informed of all problems, potential and actual
affecting field and/or lab operations.
E) AUTHORITY:
The Quality Control Manager is empowered to make decisions necessary to accomplish all tasks listed in but not limited to this job description.
