Plant Service Technician- Lead

The Plant Service Technician Lead will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial automation systems and equipment to ensure efficient plant operations in the Asphalt Industry. The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical and/or mechanical systems, understanding of PLC programming, VFD parameters, automation controls, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, and maintain industrial automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, actuators, and other control devices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automation equipment to minimize downtime and ensure production efficiency.
  • Monitor plant performance and conduct tests to identify issues and optimize functionality after installation and/or repair.
  • Provide operator skills training to customers, covering topics such as startup procedures, troubleshooting, and control system maintenance and operations.
  • Provide customer technical support on-site or via phone.
  • Collaborate and communicate with sales, engineers and team members to address product or process issues, schematic updates, design recommendations, and report any service or installation concerns.
  • Create and submit written field service reports documenting daily activities for customer records and documentation.
  • Responsible for proper labor, parts and expense documentation and other essential information for each job for proper billing.
  • Mentor and actively train less experienced team members.
  • Provide feedback to management on team performance.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements while performing duties.
  • Be available for unscheduled service with minimal notice to support our customers
  • Travel time up to 75%.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with previous work-related experience in the asphalt or combustion industry; or a combination of education and experience equivalent as deemed sufficient by management.
  • Prefer a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in construction, manufacturing, or related fields
  • Ideally 5+ years of experience in the HMA, Concrete, or Combustion Industries, troubleshooting and/or developing automation controls.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability under company carrier.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS

  • Understanding of PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including motors, drives, and industrial controls.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical and electronic blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with circuitry, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems and other power transmission equipment.
  • Basic to skilled level in fabrication, welding or mechanical systems.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and travel to different plant locations, including out-of-state travel on short notice.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
